The full serial number is found on the butt of the grip frame. You will have to remove the grips to see it.

In other words there would have been K22's, K32's and K38's all sharing the same serial number range. It should have "Made in USA" or a 4 line trade mark stamp like this one, stamped on the right side over the trigger guard.
