Relistening to this Sleep Token album and crying in my car. I felt compelled–as if by nature–to listen to This Place Will Become Your Tomb–released September 22, 2021–in a time of distress. I reached for it as a sort of uncomfortable crutch. Even before this album, much has been made of Sleep Token’s lore.Thoughts on the lore TW: Suicide (1/?) A good bunch of rock/metal music is about heartbreak and negative emotions, and if we strip down Sleep Token to its core themes, it’s still talking about that, but changing the involved parties into a God and his Vessel. If we look at other similar music projects, let’s say Twenty One Pilots or Starset ...Jul 29, 2023 · It’s impossible to critique Sleep Token without mentioning the sheer presence of Vessel. The golden-voiced enigma is the central figure of both their lore (TLDR: a god spoke to him, now he makes horny pop-djent) and their music. He’s the creative mastermind of every song and, reportedly, records every instrument except the drums. The short answer: yes. However, as Sleep Token tends to have an affinity for doing, be that through their mystical image, or their deep lore, it’s proving to not be quite as clear cut as once assumed.
